What is Meal Planning?

Meal planning is the method used to prepare your meals for each day. It is usually done a week at a time. There are many options for breakfast like cereals (hot and cold), omelets, casseroles and such that are amenable to most families. Lunch is often a leftover version of dinner or a simple sandwich.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner can be planned this way, although dinner is usually the main concern. It is the meal that the family traditionally eats together. After a long day of school, work and the like, everyone is looking forward to delicious fare. Trying to think of something on the fly can be quite difficult.

Meal planning takes the guesswork out of the big question all kids ask, “What’s for dinner tonight, Mom?” Now, you can happily tell them something and receive a satisfying grin on their faces. Sitting down once a week to create a dinner plan for the next seven days will change your life and your wallet.

Grocery Shopping Made Easy

Even moms don’t like to grocery shop. There are so many aisles with so many choices that it can be hard to decide what to get. Aren’t you glad that you don’t have to worry about that anymore? When you utilize meal planning, the guesswork is taken out of grocery shopping forever. Yes, we said forever.

Here are a few tips to remember when grocery shopping from now on.

  1. Create a list of items you need from your meal planning recipes – Take a tally of what you already have in your kitchen pantry. Will it be enough for the week? Add items to your list that are running low or that you don’t have yet. This is all you will need to have for grocery shopping that week.
  2. Take a look at what’s on sale – Check the circulars. Use that as a guide for planning meals. If there is a run on chicken, maybe try a casserole, fajitas and a pot pie this week. This way you can get what you need at a good price. You can plan your shopping trip around the stores that have the best buys that week.
  3. Shop each week – There is no need to freeze meats and you can buy fresh vegetables from the produce section or even the farmer’s market. You won’t waste money because you only purchase what you will use that week for meals.

Grocery shopping doesn’t have to take a long time when you start and end with your meal planning list.
