smoked pork chops with sweet apple orange sauce 1

These smoked and boneless pork chops, coated with a sweet yet smoky apple and orange sauce, are perfect when served along mashed potatoes infused with cheddar and hearty Applewood bacon and some sweet baby peas. Smoked boneless pork chops are very lean and the texture and taste is much more like ham than pork chops. Since the pork chops are smoked, they are already fully cooked and only need to be quickly warmed up to serving temperature by gently simmering in the sauce.

Ingredients:

  • 2 packages, 7.5 ounces each, of fully cooked, smoked pork chops
  • 1/2 large onion, chopped
  • 1 large apple, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup of orange juice
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika

First we start by chopping the apple and onion and getting the orange juice ready. I prefer rough chopping the onions and apples for more texture in the sauce but you can chop them finer if you desire. You can combine tangerine and orange juice, if you like, to get the 1/2 cup needed for this recipe.

Next, we preheat a large skillet on medium high heat and add the butter, onion, apple and salt. The salt helps to soften and bring the juices out of the apples and onions.

Stir the apples and onions to prevent burning and saute until soft, about 10 minutes.

When the apples and onions are soft, turn the heat down to medium and stir in the orange juice and smoked paprika.
