Stuffed French Toast 5#yum #frenchtoast #breakfast #food

Stuffed French Toast is crispy on the outside, oozing with a gooey, creamy, fruity center and topped with powdery sugar, a fruity glaze and indulgent whipped cream. It’s not for those who need to count calories but it is definitely a crowd pleaser and a dish you’ll want to make again and again. In this recipe, I used grape jelly but you can use strawberry, pineapple, peach, or whatever kind of jelly you prefer. If you want to make a savory type of Stuffed French Toast, try using crumbled bacon or thinly sliced ham and cheddar cheese for the filling and use maple syrup for the topping.

Ingredients:

  • 2 hard rolls (or Kaiser rolls, etc.)
  • 1 tablespoon margarine or butter
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 2 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons grape jelly
  • 1/4 cup grape jelly, warmed
  • Powdered sugar (also known as 10x sugar)
  • Whipped cream

First we carefully slice a thin layer off the bottoms off the hard rolls.

Then slice off the tops, making sure the center section that we will be using is even all the way around. Discard the tops and bottoms or save them in the freezer for when a recipe calls for bread crumbs.

Stuffed French Toast 2

Next, we carefully cut a slit into the center of the side of the rolls to create a pocket, making sure you don’t cut through to the other side. Insert 1 ounce of cream cheese and 1 tablespoon of grape jelly into the pocket, spreading carefully.

Stuffed French Toast 3

Melt margarine or butter in medium sized frying pan on medium heat. Beat the egg and milk in a small bowl but big enough to also fit the roll. Next, we quickly dip the roll into the egg mixture, coating both sides and place into frying pan. Repeat with other roll.

Stuffed French Toast 4

When golden brown, turn over carefully and cook the other side.

Stuffed French Toast 5

When both sides are golden brown, place them on serving plates. Spoon warmed grape jelly over stuffed French toast, sprinkle with powdered sugar and put whipped cream on top. Enjoy!
